How Long Does it Take to Get Your Money from Payment Processing?

We’re going to tackle the question: How long will it take for you to receive your money after payment processing? We’ll get to it in a second.

Daily Funding

Merchants typically want daily funding. You get money daily, usually the following day.

There’s a slight difference between retail merchants and online merchants. E-commerce merchants are considered higher-risk from the perspective of credit card processing. Retail customers are present, but e-commerce customers are not. This remoteness makes it easier to commit fraud.

You’ll usually get funding daily. When you are funded daily, your money may not always arrive the same day or the next. It can sometimes take an additional day. You may be at a credit union, where it takes an additional day to process your electronic funds transfer. You want to be sure that your payment processor sends you money each day.

Weekly Funding

You can get your money here once a week. Some merchants use a once-per week funding.

Strangely, merchants initially complain about this but then want it. They want to switch to weekly financing because: they realize that it’s a lot more work to log in to their bank account each day to check the deposits. It’s a real pain.

They ask: Can I be funded weekly? Yes, you can. You can use weekly funding. This is a personal opinion, but it’s something I tell merchants. Payment processors are concerned if you run a business with such a tight margin you cannot operate it for a full week without cash flow.

You should not say that you are desperate for money. You could say, “It’s how we manage our cash flow.”

Switching to Daily Funding

  • What can you to if your money isn’t arriving as soon as you expect?
  • What happens if the payment processor holds onto your money for longer than desired?
  • What do I need to do in order to get daily funding?
  • What if my processing history is longer with you?

Ask them, for example, if your business is new and you have a weekly funding plan. After six months, you may be able to switch to a daily funding plan.

You can tell your customers that you know the next year will be great for you if you have a well-established business. Please put me on the daily funding if I show you our financial statements at year’s end. You can see we made a great deal of money. If yes, then the answer is likely to be “yes”.

If you cannot get help from your payment processor, switch. Payment processing is most commonly used with these two funding schedules (daily or weekly). This is my best effort. By the way, if you want to get a quote for payment processing or talk to us about daily funding, reach out to us!
